Encounter Protocol
The practice of preparing for what cannot be planned, tuning attention to a frequency of openness.

The Encounter Protocol is the practice of preparing for what cannot be planned, tuning attention to a frequency of openness without projecting what the openness should receive.
Nausicaa does not go to the river to find a husband. She goes to wash clothes. The encounter happens because her attention has been prepared — by dream, by journey, by play — without her knowing what it has been prepared for.
The four stages
1. The Dream Preparation
Athena's whisper in Nausicaa's ear is not a command. It is a tuning: the redirection of attention from private fantasy to practical task, from the interior world of anticipation to the exterior world of preparation. The dream does not say what will happen. It creates the conditions in which something can happen.
2. The Journey
The wagon, the mules, the river, the washing, the bathing, the eating, the play — these are not obstacles to encounter but its prerequisites. The journey creates the field. The field creates the possibility. The possibility creates the encounter. Without the journey, there is no field. Without the field, there is no possibility.
3. The Relaxation
The play is essential. The ball game, the throwing off of veils, the song, the sunlight on the water — these are not distractions from the serious work of attention. They are the condition of attention. The grasping mind, the seeking mind, the mind that projects its desires onto the future, cannot receive what arrives. Only the relaxed mind, the playful mind, the mind that is content with the present moment, can be open to the unexpected.
4. The Reception
Nausicaa does not seek Odysseus. She receives him. She does not plan to help him. She helps him. She does not decide to be generous. She is generous. The reception is not an act of will. It is the natural expression of an attention that has been tuned to the frequency where encounter is possible.
